Merck & Co., Rahway, NJ, is seeking a Principal Scientist in Upstream Development to lead biologics cell culture process development for early- and late-stage assets. You will shape technical strategy, mentor scientists, and drive collaborations across partners and vendors.

The role requires a Ph.D. or equivalent with extensive industry experience in CHO processes, scale-up, tech transfer, and data science methods, and offers annual bonus and long-term incentives within a comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 8+ years of industry experience in chemical/biochemical engineering.
• Master's with 10+ years industry experience.
• Bachelor's with 14+ years industry experience in related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead upstream biologics process development for first-in-human and commercial processes by efficiently developing high yield, robust and scalable cell culture processes.
• Providing technical direction for process development, characterization, commercialization, and regulatory filing activities to ensure a smooth and clear path to successful PPQs and BLAs for our company pipeline.
• Advancing upstream platform process technical strategy and championing creative process improvement initiatives
• Initiating new collaborations to assess new technologies and industry strategies with relevance to our Company.
