Principal Scientist, LNP Drug Product Characterization (Biophysics and Analytical) - Vaccines

About the role
As the Principal Scientist within the Drug Product Platform and Early Clinical Development Team, you will provide hands-on leadership to a small team focusing on LNP analytics to characterize LNP Drug Products. Your responsibilities include method transfer, team development, cross-functional collaboration, and supporting the development of new LNP formulations for mRNA vaccines.
Main Responsibilities:
- Build and lead a team (1-2 contractors) for biophysical characterization and analytical needs.
- Coordinate with Analytical Science to ensure method alignment and improvements.
- Develop testing strategies, including sample tracking and data reporting.
- Collaborate on biophysical characterization studies to support new LNP platform development.
- Mentor junior scientists and manage analytical operations.
- Provide scientific insights into particle size, zeta potential, morphology, and other biophysical properties.
- Support technology transfer to toxicology and pilot scale.
- Participate in cross-functional teams for mRNA vaccine development.
- Analyze data, prepare reports, and stay current with literature.
- Recommend equipment and provide training and guidance to team members.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biophysics, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of experience.
- Knowledge of nucleic acids, lipid biochemistry, and drug product process development.
- Experience with biophysical characterization of lipid nanoparticles.
- Proficiency with analytical tools like SEC, DLS, HPLC, microscopy, etc.
- Leadership experience is preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
