Turing in San Francisco, California, is looking for a Principal Research Engineer – RL to lead the end-to-end lifecycle of RL environment projects. This hands-on leadership role involves managing teams, ensuring high-quality data, and direct interaction with AI labs. Candidates should have relevant experience in RL, engineering management, and a technical background in Computer Science. Compensation ranges from $250,000 to $350,000 OTE plus equity in a collaborative work culture.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with RL fine-tuning, verifier/reward design, and/or environment design.
• Experience managing teams of engineers, including interviewing and QA processes.
• Ability to simulate data schema and API interface of applications.
• Willingness to write code with the team you’re managing.
• Proven ability to manage complex data pipelines and concurrent projects.
• Ability to communicate with diverse teams and researchers.

Responsibilities

• Lead RL Environment projects end‑to‑end ensuring compliance with client specs.
• Ensure quality of RL environments, data quality, and generation.
• Build and maintain the team necessary for timely delivery.
• Set processes for team output and quality validation.
• Manage client relationships and provide regular updates.
• Participate in solutioning conversations with clients.
• Demonstrate proof of value through in-house experiments.
