Capital One is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Principal Risk Specialist to join the Business Continuity Risk Management (BCRM) team within the Operational Risk Management second line of defense. BCRM is responsible for independent governance and oversight of Capital One’s business continuity practices enabling Capital One to respond to and recover from business disruptions. As a Principal Risk Specialist, you will provide risk advice and effective challenge to the first line of defense in its identification, management, control, and mitigation of business continuity risks.

As part of the larger Operational Risk Management (ORM) organization, you will work with talented associates to provide oversight and effective challenge to ensure that our businesses effectively manage operational risk overall. This includes enabling our organizations to maintain a sustainable and holistic operational risk profile in order to deliver superior products while also protecting our customers. You’ll also bring your unique perspective and experiences to help us be rigorous, curious and creative.

Principal Risk Specialists have a natural passion for managing risk with excellent project, process and analytical skills. With these skills, they serve as change agents to effectively challenge business partners. Specific responsibilities of the Business Continuity Principal Risk Specialists include and are not limited to:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
• At least 2 years of experience in risk, compliance or audit
• At least 2 years of experience working with internal business customers
• At least 1 years of experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, or technology resilience
• At least 1 year of testing experience (such as transaction testing, control testing)

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years of experience in risk, compliance or audit
• 2 years of testing experience (such as transaction testing, control testing)
• 1 years of project management experience leading cross functional programs in risk
• Certification in risk management, audit, or business continuity management (Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC))

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $120,800 – $137,900 for Principal Risk Specialist

Richmond, VA: $109,900 – $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
