Job description

Delivering mission-critical, electronic solutions that protect lives. Use your creativity and critical thinking to take our products from concept to customer.

At CAES, we engineer solutions for the world’s most critical missions. We serve customers in the defense and aerospace markets.

Seeking a career that offers challenging, diverse projects and opportunities? Looking for a position with a company that offers long-term professional advancement? Searching for a place that values a diverse, team-based environment? One that values YOU. Consider CAES.

The most important thing we build is TRUST

Overview

Is your Superpower in the "wizardry" of System Design? Our world-class Lansdale Systems Design team needs your skills! Our RF Systems Design Engineer role will apply broad technical knowledge and skills in various scientific/technical disciplines to the design, analysis, planning, and development of major subsystems and small-scale systems. Systems are primarily in the RF Electronic Warfare (EW) business area that includes Radar Warning (RW), Situational Awareness, Interferometry/Direction Finding (DF), Electronic Attack (EA), as well as Self-Protect RF Counter Measures (RFCM) including on-/off-board systems.

The successful candidate must have a propensity to create designs, perform simulations, allocate/derive requirements, and/or generate circuit analysis for system-level specifications or RF components based on performance, schedule, cost, reliability, and manufacturability goals. This could include any combination of technical research, test, documentation, and presentation. This role works closely with other engineering disciplines and provides technical insight to ensure that designs achieve "best value" goals of meeting performance and life cycle requirements within allocated budget and schedule constraints.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define top-level system architectures using functional elements of a system; RF amplification, antenna, power, mechanical, digital/analog, I/O, SW/FW
  • Requirements development/management including derivation/decomposition
  • Generate block/flow diagrams, interconnection drawings (ICDs), wire lists
  • Conduct trade analysis, architectural studies, and performance modeling
  • Generate models or simulations aiding in predicted performance for compliance
  • Recommend, plan, lead, review, and identify risks for R&D efforts
  • Integrate and test modules or subsystems in various laboratory or field environments
  • Propose technical (re-) solutions and their impact on cost, schedule and risk
  • Generate technical content for submission and/or briefing to internal/external stakeholders
  • Innovate designs/processes to improve offerings thru participation or leading of customer funded projects or research and development (R&D)
  • Occasional domestic travel to support government/industry sponsored activities; industry-days, CONOP exercises, technical interchanges

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, RF systems, Physics or equivalent experience
  • Eight (8)+ years of hands-on technical work experience with RF component exposure
  • Two (2)+ years of recent experience in requirements management/development (tools such as; DOORS, Jama)
  • Eight (8)+ years of experience working with RF/microwave concepts & terminology; dB, dBm, EIRP, G/T, Noise Figure, P1dB, VSWR
  • Five (5)+ years of experience with frequencies from microwave to millimeter wave (2 to 40 GHz)
  • Five (5)+ years of laboratory experience with test equipment (e.g. network analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a “US Person” under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred:

  • Twelve (12)+ plus years of RF technical work, primarily in the EW, Defense, or Aerospace industry
  • Designed to and/or specified requirements for EW, radar, or communication systems
  • Knowledge of RF/microwave principles and subsystem analysis methodologies working with receivers, transmitters, or antennas
  • Worked with frequencies from microwave to millimeter wave (1 to 74 GHz)
  • Good knowledge of circuit design fundamentals, electronic components, or schematic capture (e.g. Altium)
  • Integration, validation & verification (IV&V) experience for system compliance determination
  • Experience programming with MATLAB or other scripting language (e.g. Python), simulation tools (e.g. AWR, ADS, HFSS, or CST)
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering methodology (e.g. CATIA)
  • Strong verbal communication skills with ability to present data and explain results to key stakeholders
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance
