Job summary

AIR's Healthcare Innovations team seeks a Principal Researcher to lead CMS/CMMI evaluations and drive evidence-based improvements in Medicare and Medicaid policies.

The role offers remote work within the United States and opportunities to oversee large-scale federally funded projects, shape proposals, and mentor junior staff in a multidisciplinary environment of health economists, data scientists, and public health experts.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Economics, Health Services Research, or related field with at least 7 years of relevant work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years project management experience.
• Led or contributed to CMMI model evaluation contracts in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated success in writing and winning CMS/AHRQ or other HHS proposals.
• Extensive knowledge of Medicare payment policy, Medicare Advantage, and/or Medicaid.
• Knowledge of Medicare claims, provider claims, survey data, and public datasets.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development activities for CMS and CMMI, including capture planning, client engagement, opportunity shaping, proposal development, and growth initiatives.
• Serve as Project Director or senior evaluation leader for complex evaluations of Medicare payment and service delivery models, overseeing all aspects of project execution.
• Provide senior technical leadership for evaluations of CMMI models, including quasi-experimental designs, mixed-methods research, and Medicare data analyses.
• Coach and manage staff to promote development and set developmental goals.
• Foster an environment valuing diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
