AbbVie Biologics Analytical Research & Development (Biologics Analytical R&D) is a global analytical sciences organization responsible for all CMC analytical activities related to the development of AbbVie's pharmaceutical products. Our scope includes AbbVie's diverse pipeline of innovative therapeutic biologic medicines and spans from the selection of discovery candidate molecules through the transition of analytical methods and testing to support product launch. The biologics characterization group develops advanced analytical techniques for in-depth characterization of therapeutic proteins and biologic molecules using mass spectrometry and other techniques. We seek diverse candidates with strong scientific and leadership experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have CMC expertise in analytical development for biologics, assisting with method development and execution to support CMC, and participating in phase-appropriate characterization at all development stages.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead development and implementation of LC-MS based extended characterization methods for complex biologic programs at various phases, including experience with ADCs.
  2. Participate in cross-functional teams to guide analytical strategy and support process and formulation scientists, sharing expertise and fostering collaboration.
  3. Advance scientific expertise, mentor colleagues, and contribute to overcoming scientific and business challenges.
  4. Ensure quality and effectiveness of project results through sound design, risk assessments, and fallback strategies.
  5. Identify and integrate emerging scientific trends in molecular characterization of biotherapeutics.
  6. Apply innovative approaches and create new methods or strategies for biologic analysis.
  7. Contribute significantly to project teams, working across disciplines to meet milestones.
  8. Generate and lead scientific proposals, responding to advances and threats with new strategies.

Qualifications

  • PhD with 6+ years’ experience in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology, with laboratory experience.
  • Deep knowledge of protein characterization by mass spectrometry and biophysical techniques.
  • Practical experience with protein HPLC (SEC, IEX, HIC), electrophoresis, and separation techniques.
  • Understanding of protein chemistry, biologics drug development, and formulations; experience with ADCs is a plus.
  • Proven innovative ability and history of product release improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal and external partners.
