Job Description

The Analytical Research & Development team is seeking a talented, highly motivated candidate with experience in the characterization of peptide and oligonucleotide biomolecules. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing analytical methods for the characterization of peptides/oligonucleotides using advanced analytical techniques, with an emphasis on mass spectrometry-based methods. We are looking for diverse candidates with strong scientific and leadership experience to join the AbbVie Analytical R&D team and can offer exciting and rewarding career opportunities. The ideal candidate will have CMC expertise in analytical development for biomolecule therapeutics and will support CMC activities, participate in phase-appropriate characterization, and monitor project progress.

Responsibilities

1. Lead development and implementation of advanced analytical characterization methods for peptide and oligonucleotide programs.
2. Utilize structure elucidation techniques such as high-resolution, tandem mass spectrometry to characterize various modalities, including oligonucleotides, peptides, and small molecules.
3. Lead structure elucidation efforts within projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance programs.
4. Enhance scientific expertise, share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and address business challenges.
5. Ensure quality and effectiveness of project results through sound design and risk assessments.
6. Identify and integrate emerging scientific trends in molecular characterization.
7. Innovate by creating and implementing new approaches and ideas.
8. Contribute to project teams, work across disciplines, and drive programs forward.
9. Generate scientific proposals and respond to advances with new strategies.

Qualifications

1. PhD with 6+ years of experience in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
2. Deep understanding of peptide and oligonucleotide characterization, including higher order structure and chiral identification.
3. Experience with NMR spectroscopy is a plus.
4. Strong knowledge of LC separation techniques and other separation methods.
5. Solid understanding of peptide/oligonucleotide chemistry and drug development processes.
6. Experience with peptides and small molecules is advantageous.
7. Proven ability to innovate and improve products.
8. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
