Job Description
Principal Research & Development (R&D) Engineer – reports to the Vice President of Research & Development. The role involves planning, designing, implementing, prototyping, and verifying wireless technology projects. Position based at headquarters, West Los Angeles, CA, with a hybrid schedule (minimum 3 days onsite per week).
Role and Responsibilities
- Technical management of R&D projects and programs, including overall system design, requirement specification, schedule tracking, and hands‑on design, simulation, and verification work.
- Oversee simulation, software, FPGA, and testing efforts.
- Customer‑facing engagement and technical material preparation.
- Provide reports to management for strategic planning.
- Participate in R&D business development: whitepaper and proposal preparation, technology pitching, and engagement with government and industry.
- Collaborate on large team projects, set technology portfolio, and pipeline.
- Supervise a team of engineers, participate in job‑description drafting, and candidate screening/interviews.
- Travel as required for customer interactions and team meetings.
- Perform other related duties.
Required Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years experience in wireless system design and development.
- Minimum 5 years technical project leadership experience.
- Experience completing the technology development cycle from design to field testing.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Employment contingent upon background check and drug test clearance.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Simulation and prototyping (C/C++, MATLAB, Python, etc.).
- Radio frequency propagation, channel modeling, digital communication.
- Wireless ad‑hoc mesh networking, medium access, routing algorithms.
- Signal processing algorithms (MIMO, OFDM, beam‑nulling).
- Congested and contested spectrum management, interference mitigation.
- RF sensing and signal classification.
- Technical writing, proposal preparation, and presentation.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Office environment with occasional field tests.
- May involve lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, reaching, and occasional kneeling or squatting.
Compensation
$180,000 – $250,000 annually, based on experience.
