Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Vehicle Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of engineering tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Oakland, California.

Accountabilities:

  1. Ensure the definition of the Vehicle System Architecture, by the identification of the interfaces among the main on-board technological sub-systems.
  2. Ensure that the Vehicle design is oriented to maintenance effectiveness and to use of expert diagnostic systems.
  3. Execute the Verification activities of vehicle interface documents, according to the V&V Plan.
  4. Ensure the assessment of the Rolling Stocks Design in order to achieve full integration with other sub-systems and components.
  5. Ensure the monitoring of Vehicle production and testing process in order to control key factors affecting interfaces and system performances.
  6. Participate to on site tests relevant to the vehicle Integration (e.g. advice to issue resolution).
  7. Ensure the proposal of improvements and updates of the design standards about Rolling Stock interfaces in accordance with process and technology improvements.
  8. With regards to Rolling Stocks, contribute to the functional requirements fulfilment in Design and Testing phase and to the resolution of the interfaces among Rolling Stock and the other sub-systems, by providing detailed description of the main integrated functions as well as main operating scenarios.
  9. KPI trends of the projects about Requirements Management.

Required Skills:

  1. At least 10 years' experience in on board equipment installation and testing.
  2. Knowledge in electrical wiring, functional scheme review and mechanical installation.
  3. Ability to manage a local technical team, manage the final client, and subcontractor.
  4. Ability to work in a complex project and team-work skills.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering or Information Technology or Equivalent Technical Background.

Languages:

English-Proficient

The salary range for this position is $143,000- $214,000 per year. Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
