Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing quality radiologic exams and providing compassionate patient care for patients in all age groups from neonate through geriatric. The Principal Radiologic Technologist (PRT) must be fully competent in the four main facets of the hospital-based X-ray department: Operating Room, Emergency Department, Fluoroscopy, and inpatient/portable services. The incumbent provides expert technical support and coordinates the delivery of radiological services to ensure efficiency. They operate various types of x-ray equipment, Dexa equipment, and auxiliary equipment to produce diagnostic images for radiologist interpretation. Work quality is reviewed by supervisors or radiologists.

The Principal Radiologic Technologist will adhere to department protocols, policies, and regulations, acting with initiative to ensure high imaging quality. All duties are performed calmly and cooperatively with radiologists, clinicians, and peers. The incumbent must be capable of performing all job functions required by the Department of Radiology.

This position may be required to work in the Main Hospital, Ambulatory Care Center, Same Day Surgery Center, or satellite facilities within UCD’s Primary Clinic Network as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • CRT Certification
  • CA Fluoroscopic Permit
  • ARRT Certification
  • AHA BLS CPR Certification or UC Davis CPR
  • Proficiency in at least three of the following: Fluoroscopy (GI/GU, Pediatrics), Mobile Fluoroscopy (C-arm/O-arm); demonstrate advanced understanding of diagnostic x-ray exams, image quality, equipment, regulation, performance improvement, change management, patient throughput, and IT systems.
  • Knowledge of imaging equipment operation and adaptability to new technology
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, injuries, diseases, and treatments
  • Understanding physical principles and laws related to fluid dynamics, mechanics, and atomic structures
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a challenging environment
  • Adaptability and flexibility in changing situations
  • Proficiency in PACS system management
  • CPR administration ability
  • Good judgment and adherence to rules and policies
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and initiative
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle high patient volumes
  • Data management skills, RIS and IS system knowledge
  • Ability to maneuver portable radiology equipment in tight spaces
  • Quick reaction skills in emergencies

Position Details
  • Salary Range: $58.85 - $76.11 per hour
  • Full-time, 100% on-site, shifts Tuesday-Friday 2030-0700
  • Location: Main Hospital (HSP001)
