A leading technology firm is seeking a Principal Quality Assurance Manager to oversee quality standards in automated systems and robotics. This role involves cross-functional interaction with teams to ensure adherence to quality and continuous improvement processes. What we need
Symboticis seeking a highly motivated Principal Quality Assurance Manager with experience managing large complex integrated programs. The Principal Quality Assurance Manager will work directly with our manufacturing and third-partner contract manufacturers for autonomous robots, automated cells and engineered structures. Job will include cross functional interaction with customer sites and installation teams to ensure quality standards are adhered to in all aspects of installations while acting as a catalyst for continuous improvement in our products and systems. This role will interface with suppliers, sub-tiers, engineering, program team, and sourcing to drive high levels of quality and field reliability in critical sub-systems and components. The candidate must be able to understand the application of our products and their use environments to appropriately and strategically apply technical knowledge and methodologies to drive product quality. Applying statistical and reliability methods this position will examine the field data, subsystem components defects, and site quality concerns.
They will also work with cross-functional leaders including design, engineering, supply chain, finance, installation, commissioning, testing, operations, suppliers, and the customer to plan and implement automation solutions at client sites. The Principal QA Manager’s primary goal is to ensure the QA team is aligned and plans are executed, issues/risks are managed effectively, and communications are crisp to ensure successful execution of projects and programs. This position will be a highly visible role and will interact with all departments and levels across the company including executive management. This role may have supervisory responsibilities over one or more quality engineers.

The Principal Quality Assurance Manager is part of the Quality team is part of the Manufacturing organization; which is responsible for driving continuous improvement practices of our systems' performance. Our quality team ensures that the products and processes meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability. Their primary focus is to maintain consistency in the production of robots and automated systems that meet customer requirements and comply with industry standards. The quality team collaborates closely with various departments to ensure that quality is integrated throughout the entire product development and manufacturing lifecycle.
What you’ll do
Lead the efforts and partnership with product solutions architect, quality engineers, technology providers, and infrastructure functions to support concepts, high level designs, and end-to-end solutions
Ability to understand complex technical issues, communicate well with internal and external technical personnel, triage issues based on priority, impact, risk, release timing, and facilitate resolution.
Develop and update Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to ensure requirements are aligned with Symbotic goals and all potential product failures mechanisms are identified and mitigated.
Lead projects with quality activities including PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, and process capability.
Lead engineering change requests (ECR) per document control procedures
Review engineering and manufacturing tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions.
Review new and existing system designs and make recommendations for improving or altering the systems.
Ensure projects are engineered for the long-term seeking reliability and life-testing results to ensure Customer Loyalty and strong ROIC
Lean-focused, continual improvement of new standards, processes and procedures that streamline interactions and communication across teams.
Facilitate cross-functional meetings and regularly communicate initiative status to teams and senior management.
Provide Quality leadership at third party manufacturing sites, focusing on identification and timely resolution of issues via structured quality methods.
Employ 8-D based Supplier Corrective Action request to deliver efficient and effective root cause analysis and corrective / preventive actions that ensure there is no recurrence
Support Manufacturing and Quality Assurance with the disposition of discrepant material and the qualification of new material/ processes to assure reliability requirements are met.
Utilize Six Sigma and Lean methods to drive quality and process improvements.
Utilize root cause methodologies to analyze product failures and develop corrective and preventive actions.
Perform Site Quality activities focused on daily and weekly updates utilizing dashboards and KPIs.
Drive data analysis of major performance concerns at sites- downtime, suspects, and PDN
10-25% domestic travel expected.
What you’ll need
Bachelor’s degree in operations, Manufacturing, Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 12 years’ experience in manufacturing, quality, integration development, with preference in robotics.
Minimum of 10 years of Quality Engineering experience within a regulated manufacturing industry.
Experience in all aspects of quality management: quality concepts/tools/methods (FMEA, DOE, MSA, GRR, 8D, etc.) Strong quantitative and analytic skills; capable of translating findings into business actions
Experience working in or with Engineering, Quality, Development Engineering, and Manufacturing.
Strong hands-on project management and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to consistently establish and meet aggressive timelines. Ability to build and maintain productive cross-functional relationships. Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
Experience using Control Plans, FMEA’s and PPAP or equivalent part approval process.
Analytical problem-solving skills to determine root causes (8D, A3) and use of statistical analysis tools.
Experience in reliability methods and failure mode analysis (DFMEA, PFMEA)
Ability to present written and verbal presentation to engineering and manufacturing senior management
Certified or previously certified auditor for ISO 9001, AS9100, etc. preferred.
Our Environment
Remote, field-based position.
Travel is required up to 75% of the time. Employee must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
Our headquarters is in Wilmington, MA. The person taking this position willbe requiredto perform work at our customer installation locations for extended periods of time where equipment is installed and ready for commissioning.(Commissioning Team)
The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is routinely required to work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches. to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must comply with all safety requirements and protocols, including without limitation Lock out tag out safety protocols and fall protection safety protocols.
Approximately 75% of time will be spent on a construction site with PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection (e.g., safety harness).
There will be steep stairs to climb into the structureYou may be required to routinely walk up and down stairs to navigate the automation structure.
You will regularly be near railings that are high off the ground.
Subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily. temperature changes. Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
