Job description

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to join our Global Engineering & Technology Center (GETC) in Puerto Rico, supporting the Power & Controls organization. We’re looking for an accomplished and highly motivated engineering leader ready to drive complex, multidisciplinary initiatives in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment. In this role, you will serve as the Project Lead for a high‑visibility Environment and Aircraft Control Systems (EACS) program, directing cross‑functional teams across hardware design, software development, production, and testing activities for aircraft control systems.

As a Principal Project Engineer, you will partner closely with the Program Management Team (PMT) and key engineering disciplines. You will develop and maintain execution strategies, ensure schedule and cost integrity, coordinate cross‑functional deliverables, and proactively identify risks and opportunities. This role requires strong autonomy, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills to align diverse teams, influence decision‑making, and improve collaboration and efficiency across programs.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.

This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What YOU will do:
  • Serve as the Principal Engineering Lead for EACS project execution, providing direction, resolving cross‑functional challenges, and ensuring alignment with program objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and govern integrated project schedules—including milestones, dependencies, deliverables, cost data, and resource needs.
  • Lead recurring project and technical reviews, driving accountability for progress, risks, issues, and upcoming priorities.
  • Identify complex risks, barriers, and opportunities, and develop robust mitigation strategies and recovery plans.
  • Support baseline creation, change management activities, CIPT communications, and engineering process compliance.
  • Analyze performance trends, cost and schedule data, resource forecasts, and execution metrics to inform program and leadership decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project engineering processes, scheduling, monitoring, reporting, and cross‑team collaboration.
Qualifications you must have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • Experience leading complex, multifunction engineering programs or IPT/CIPT activities.
  • Professional English communication skills (verbal and written).
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience within the project management discipline.
  • Microsoft Project and Excel skills for complex integrated schedules.
  • Background in controller electronics or aircraft systems development.
  • Demonstrated experience with recovery planning, risk mitigation, and strategic execution management.
  • Resource management experience within multidisciplinary engineering groups.
  • Cost/schedule integration practices experience.
  • Understanding of project management theory and methodologies.
  • Experience across the full product life cycle in systems, hardware, software, or mechanical engineering.
What We Offer

Some of our competitive benefits package includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Three weeks of vacation for newly hired employees
  • Generous 401(k) plan that includes employer matching funds
  • Participation in the Employee Scholar Program (ESP)
  • Life insurance and disability coverage
  • Employee Assistance Plan, including up to 8 free counseling sessions.
  • And more!
