Uses agentic coding tools and LLMs daily (e.g., Claude Code) for prompt engineering and rapid agent prototyping.
About the Role
Lead product definition, prototyping, evaluation, and enterprise deployment of agentic AI for workforce management. Own the end-to-end product lifecycle—specification, hands-on prototyping, evaluation, and release quality—while working closely with AI Lab engineers and executive leadership.
Job Description
Role
Principal Product Manager leading the development of agentic AI that performs workforce management tasks. The role requires hands-on work across specification, prototyping, evaluation, and enterprise deployment, with close collaboration with AI engineers and executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Define agent responsibilities, tool usage, escalation rules, and manager-facing outputs with attention to pay and legal compliance.
- Conduct operational research inside customer operations to identify workflows where agents create measurable value and produce a ranked roadmap.
- Define the human-in-the-loop contract: autonomy boundaries, escalation thresholds, overrides, logging, and auditability.
- Stay engaged through implementation: review builds vs. specifications, join bug triage, perform design review, and hold releases when quality is insufficient.
- Build and maintain evaluation sets, write test cases, review failure traces, and set pass criteria for releases and production monitoring.
- Produce and maintain Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs) as the authoritative specification source.
- Partner with go-to-market on packaging, metering, pricing inputs, and field readiness for agentic products.
- Lead design-partner deployments: scope pilots, establish success criteria, join failure reviews, and determine general availability vs. bespoke deliverables.
Technical Expectations
- Write and iterate prompts and system prompts; explain improvements to model behavior.
- Stand up working prototypes of agents (tool definitions, structured outputs, retries, guardrails) prior to engineering work.
- Use agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) daily for prototyping, analysis, and spec work; read and understand code behind specifications.
- Diagnose execution traces to identify issues from tool descriptions, retrieval gaps, context-window limits, output schemas, or model limitations.
- Build and run evaluation sets and interpret results without a data scientist intermediary.
- Hold informed positions on retrieval design, tool-use patterns, structured output, model routing, latency/cost trade-offs, and multi-tenant safety.
- Open pull requests against the codebase for prototypes, prompt changes, evaluation fixtures, or spec stubs (pushing code is encouraged but not required).
Requirements
- 10+ years product management experience for Principal level (7+ years for Senior), with at least 2 years shipping LLM-backed features to external paying customers.
- Demonstrated hands-on capability in prompt engineering, prototyping, evaluation, and product delivery.
- Substantial enterprise B2B SaaS experience (multi-tenant architecture, RBAC, audit trails, SSO, data residency, security review, procurement).
- Track record of taking ambiguous, operationally complex domain problems through to shipped products with adoption.
- Evidence of owning product quality through implementation and release decisions.
- Judgment to recognize current model limitations and communicate them clearly.
- Comfort working inside a codebase: read code, run locally, and open pull requests.
- Strong written communication; ability to run the product primarily through documents and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience in workforce management, HCM, ERP, supply chain, or other operationally complex, compliance-exposed domains.
- Familiarity with labor compliance regimes (predictive scheduling, meal/rest rules, union work rules) or ability to learn regulatory domains quickly.
- Background in demand forecasting, optimization, or decision systems.
- Experience building configurable platform surfaces for customers.
- Engineering or technical degree or prior engineering/data science experience.
- Experience with products sold into frontline-heavy industries (retail, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing).
Scope of Role
- Individual contributor role with no current team management responsibilities.
- Accountable for what ships, not just for the specification.
- Focused on product definition, prototyping, specification, evaluation, and delivery rather than AI strategy or vendor evaluation.
Selection Process
- Includes a compensated practical exercise: produce an agent design (scope, tools, failure modes, human-in-the-loop contract, evaluation plan) and a working prototype built by the candidate.
- Salary Range: $280,000–$300,000 plus bonus (tied to business outcomes) and stock equity.
- Benefits include $0 monthly premium and flexible medical/dental/vision plans effective day one, 401(k) plan, discretionary paid time off and paid holidays, parental leave, equity, monthly wellness reimbursement, and monthly lunch stipend.
Location & Remote
- Fully remote in the United States. Company states pay is determined using local, national, and industry-specific survey data and may be refined by candidate location.
