Job description

At Bezos Academy, we believe all children deserve the great start that excellent early education provides, including in under‑resourced communities. Our mission is to nurture the potential in every child to become a creative leader, original thinker, and lifelong learner by inventing the solutions needed to scale early childhood education and to pioneer the space where technology and preschool converge. We are a unique organization that operates a multi‑state network of Montessori‑inspired preschools in under‑resourced communities while also investing in creating tools, products, technology, and other solutions designed to reach children well beyond the walls of our schools. We aspire for profound, large‑scale impact on children ages zero to five.

Overview

As Principal Product Designer, you will lead the design of end‑to‑end experiences of new products that support young children, their teachers, and their families. You will guide design from concept to launch, crafting intuitive, responsive experiences grounded in empathy and deep user insight. Your work will nurture early learning and empower teachers and families, while sparking joy and expanding access to high‑quality developmental support during the most important years of a child’s growth.

Responsibilities
  • Design end‑to‑end experiences for products that support young children, teachers, and families.
  • Lead design from concept to launch, ensuring intuitive, responsive, and accessible experiences.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and curriculum experts to bring new ideas to life and influence product strategy.
  • Create, improve, invent, measure, and innovate on behalf of students and teachers in a fast‑paced start‑up environment.
  • Champion user‑centered design, from research and concept through final implementation, continual improvement, and scale.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of relevant experience in digital product design.
  • Product design portfolio showcasing measurable external customer and business impact.
  • Track record of delivering user‑centered product designs, from research and initial concept through final implementation, continual improvement and scale.
  • Expertise in Figma or other design and prototyping tools, as well as UX and visual design standards, front‑end design systems and component libraries.
  • Experience leading all phases of experience design, including user research, information architecture, persona and journey mapping, wireframing, prototypes, visual/UI design, style guides, usability, accessibility, and measurement.
  • Experience collaborating closely with product, engineering, and other partners to solve customer needs while making critical trade‑off decisions.
  • Superior communication and analytical skills, including strong ability to clarify and solve ambiguous problems and think strategically to contribute to product strategy discussions.
  • Ability to travel at least once a month to school sites in different states plus additional national travel to team meetings as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing educational technology products for children, educators, and/or families.
  • Background designing AI‑powered products and applying AI within the design process.
  • Experience building design systems to enable efficient development and scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence people and teams at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record creating accessible, responsive designs that allow customers to seamlessly transition devices, activities, or modes.
  • Ability to lead product discovery and research with a demographically and economically diverse audience.
Location

Washington, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, or Texas, within two hours’ drive to multiple Bezos Academy preschools (see our website for school locations). Seattle, WA preferred. Relocation support is available for those willing to relocate to Seattle, WA.
