Your Impact

As a Principal Product Designer, AI Features, you will lead the design of Axon's AI-driven solutions, shaping how public safety professionals interact with generative AI and setting product visions for the future. Your work will enhance officer workflows, support investigations, and improve community safety.

Our Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS) team manages vast digital files from first responders globally, improving workflows related to storage, access, and sharing. This role offers autonomy and collaboration across product teams.

You will own the user experience for Axon’s Gen AI products, influence strategic decisions, and contribute to the company’s UX vision, ensuring Axon remains a leader in public safety innovation.

What You'll Do

Location: Remote work preferred; options to work from US R&D hubs (Seattle, Scottsdale, Atlanta, Boston).

Reports to: Director of Product Design, DEMS & Devices

Direct Reports: None, but mentorship opportunities available.

1. Set and Drive Long-Term Vision: Define a 3-5 year UX vision for AI solutions, ensuring scalability and ecosystem alignment.
2. Own End-to-End Product Design: Lead research, prototyping, and implementation for complex AI workflows.
3. Shape Product Strategy: Collaborate with leadership to align design with business and AI goals.
4. Engage with Customers: Conduct research to understand and validate user needs.
5. Promote Transparency and Trust in AI: Design explainable, ethical AI interfaces.
6. Advance Ethical AI Development: Lead responsible AI practices, balancing innovation with safety.
7. Evolve Design Systems at Scale: Develop scalable design systems supporting AI products.
8. Champion Innovation and Best Practices: Explore new tools and evangelize UX standards.
9. Foster Collaboration and Alignment: Facilitate cross-team workshops and critiques.
10. Mentor and Develop Talent: Support team growth and participate in recruiting.
11. Prototype Advanced AI Interactions: Rapidly develop and test AI-driven prototypes.
12. Analytical Skills: Troubleshoot and optimize AI models.
13. Data Management Skills: Manage large datasets and feature engineering (bonus).

What You Bring

• 12+ years in product design, with leadership in AI/ML or enterprise systems.
• Ability to set and execute a strategic UX vision.
• Experience working directly with customers, especially in regulated industries.
• Knowledge of generative AI, LLMs, and front-end tech.
• Comfort in ambiguous environments, leading scalable solutions.
• Industry influence through publications, conferences, or community.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Proven mentorship success.

Pay: Total compensation includes base, bonus, and stock. Base ranges from USD 147,000 to USD 235,200 depending on location and experience. Benefits support your overall well-being. Details at www.axon.com/careers/benefits.
