As a PrincipalProduct Designer for Okta, you’ll work with a globally distributed design team to build the forward-looking vision for Okta’s entire suite of services. You will shape a culture that deeply appreciates our customers and how to best serve them. Your work will go deep at times, but you’ll also be constantly seeking opportunities to connect journeys and experiences horizontally across the Okta Platform suite. You notice the details and deeply understand how the product works. Ensuring that using our products together creates an experience that is “greater than the sum of its parts” will be critical to Okta’s success in the coming years.

This role will be focused on the UX strategy for the Access Management Pillar within the Okta Platform. Working alongside Product and Engineering teams, you’ll bring this strategy to life through explorations, prototypes, and other design artifacts that foster clarity across groups and teams. In addition, you’ll be an effective collaborator and communicator – elevating the voice of design across functions and pillars. Finally, you’ll play a key part in elevating the design practice at Okta, both in terms of craft and team culture.

In this role, you’ll get to…

  • Drive a holistic, human-centered approach and navigate the needs of multiple personas (IT admins, Security teams, end users, and developers) to design products that impact millions of users across every industry
  • Create new system and mental models at the platform level that align stakeholders and multiple types of users, helping everyone have a seamless day at work
  • Act as an ambassador for Product Design and develop a strong relationships with the broader Engineering and Product Management community that puts customers at the heart of the process (discovery, iterative ways of working, reviews, etc)
  • Challenge teams to think bigger and act smaller, instilling an iterative process and fail forward mentality to design simple and delightful user interfaces for new and existing Okta products.
  • Participate in and lead rituals that advance the craft of the design practice at Okta, including Design Share, Town Halls, mentorship programs, critique, etc.
  • Support our embedded design team and partner closely with designers to ensure that our product components, interactions, and patterns align with our design system
  • Facilitate cross-functional brainstorming sessions, design sprints, etc., and align the group around solutions
  • Find creative ways to continuously learn from customers and users; Research and synthesize user needs to help conceive, define, test and evolve solutions for our users across a range of mediums and experiences; Advocate for users and delivering user and customer outcomes in a dynamic work environment
  • Be a thought leader and an advocate for design quality, accessibility, internationalization to ensure our requirements are met at the team and leadership level
  • Empower designers and developers through a culture of continuous learning by helping to field system related questions and share out best practices with the larger design team
  • Keep abreast of competitor products and industry trends

The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $201,000 — $301,000 USD

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between: $179,000 — $269,000 USD
