About the Role

Amplitude is seeking a Principal Designer to lead the user experience strategy for our Foundations team. In this role, you will define and drive holistic strategic design solutions that shape the future of Amplitude's product suite. As a key partner to Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams, you will influence business and product strategy, ensuring a seamless and impactful experience for our users. Additionally, you will be an integral member of the design leadership team, championing design excellence and fostering collaboration across disciplines.

This role is ideal for a highly experienced design leader who thrives in tackling complex technical challenges, crafting cohesive user experiences, and driving measurable business outcomes through strategic design thinking.

What You'll Do

Strategic Design Leadership

  • Define and execute a user experience strategy that translates into a clear and actionable product roadmap.
  • Envision and articulate long-term design strategies that connect the dots across multiple problem areas, ensuring a cohesive and innovative product experience.
  • Work closely with Product and Research teams to anticipate industry trends, user needs, and market shifts, keeping Amplitude ahead of the curve.
  • Leverage design thinking and storytelling to align cross-functional teams around a shared vision.

Complex Problem Solving & Innovation

  • Navigate deeply technical and complex product areas, designing solutions that balance usability, scalability, and business impact.
  • Develop and advocate for customer-centric design approaches, ensuring that Amplitude's platform is both powerful and intuitive for diverse user groups.
  • Drive data-informed design decisions, incorporating both quantitative insights and qualitative research to refine user experiences.
  • Lead the evolution of Amplitude's data integration and extensibility solutions, ensuring seamless data flow across platforms.
  • Design for data visualization, ensuring that complex analytics and insights are effectively communicated through intuitive, engaging, and actionable interfaces.

Cross-Functional Influence & Collaboration

  • Act as a trusted design leader across Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams, ensuring alignment of strategic goals.
  • Partner with leadership teams to influence product vision, strategy, and roadmap with a design-first perspective.
  • Advocate for the value of user research and usability testing, ensuring that user feedback continuously refines and improves the product experience.
  • Act as a coach and mentor within the Product Design organization, elevating design quality, processes, and team impact.
  • Set the gold standard for design, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Share expertise across the organization, creating visibility into designs' strategic impact and fostering cross-functional engagement.

Based on legislation in California, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Salary range: $185,000 - $333,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission) plus equity.
