Job description

New York, NY, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA

About the role

We’re hiring a Principal Product Designer to help shape the future of financial peace of mind for millions. In this role, you will lead the design vision for high-impact, member-facing experiences that set a new standard in consumer fintech.

You bring a strong strategic mindset paired with exceptional craft. You’re equally comfortable defining long-term product vision and executing polished, intuitive experiences that improve members’ financial lives.

You will play a key role in shaping the quality and direction of design within the Chime app—advocating for thoughtful, member-centered solutions and partnering closely with cross-functional teams to deliver meaningful impact.

This is a high-ownership role for a senior design leader who thrives in ambiguity, drives clarity through strategy and vision, and leads through influence and collaboration.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $222,000 and up to $290,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to
  • Set the design vision: Lead the product and design vision for complex, cross-functional initiatives, defining strategic direction and ensuring experiences align with both member needs and business goals.
  • Elevate design quality at scale: Raise the bar for design execution across the organization by championing strong craft, thoughtful interaction design, and scalable visual systems.
  • Drive cross-functional strategy: Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and Analytics to define holistic, user-centered strategies that drive measurable outcomes.
  • Leverage AI-driven workflows: Apply AI-powered tools within the design process to accelerate ideation, exploration, and prototyping while expanding creative possibilities.
  • Simplify complex problems: Translate ambiguous product challenges into clear, elegant, and accessible design solutions.
  • Lead through influence: Provide design leadership and mentorship across teams, guiding projects and elevating the work of others without formal people management.
To thrive in this role, you have
  • A strategic, high-impact portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking, clear design strategy, and excellent craft across complex digital experiences.
  • Consumer product experience: A track record of designing and shipping impactful consumer products at scale across mobile and web.
  • Strong craft and prototyping skills: Expertise in tools like Figma and modern prototyping workflows, including the effective use of AI-powered design tools.
  • Design systems expertise: Experience working with and evolving design systems to ensure consistency and scalability across products.
  • High ownership and autonomy: The ability to take a product vision from concept through execution while maintaining high design quality.
  • Exceptional communication: Strong storytelling and communication skills that help align teams, influence stakeholders, and bring ideas to life.
  • Member obsession: A deep commitment to creating intuitive, thoughtful experiences that genuinely improve people's financial lives.
