Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Power Electronics Principal Engineer in New Freedom, PA, to lead the design, testing and sustainment of PCBAs and control for VSD-driven chiller applications.

You will model systems in MATLAB/SIMULINK, perform prototype testing, and support field issue resolutions with embedded processors and FPGA/CPLD. The role demands strong communication in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting and a deep understanding of power electronics, motor control, and PCBA design.

Qualifications

• BSEE or BSCE, or related field.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, schedule driven, team-oriented environment with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of PCBA designs with embedded processors and/or FPGA is required.
• Understanding of power electronics and motor control is required.
• Understanding of system modeling and simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct system modeling, system simulation and verification using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Conduct prototype testing on hardware-in-loop system, variable speed drives and chiller to verify control performance.
• Support field issue trouble shooting and control method improvements.
• Maintain/lead electronic circuit designs with embedded processors and FPGA/CPLD.
• Perform worst case circuit analysis and incorporation of appropriate reliability principles to ensure reliable operation over the environmental specifications.
• Assist internal customers to develop, test and support PCBA related projects.
• Independently conduct and apply cost analysis to feasibility studies on proposed designs or modifications to existing designs.
• Understanding and complying with quality policy, procedures and instructions to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction.

Power Electronics Principal Engineer - New Freedom, PA

Description

Electrical engineers lead the design, test and sustain power electronics Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) and their components. Design Variable Speed Drive (VSD) control for JCI chiller applications using MATLAB/SIMULINK. HIRING SALARY RANGE: $110,000 - $140,000 (salary rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
