Job summary

SpaceX, known for Starlink, seeks a Principal Materials Engineer (Polymers) to develop and evaluate polymeric materials for Starlink products. You will collaborate with design engineers to set design inputs ensuring cost-effective, reliable mass-produced components.

Senior candidate will lead scale-up from prototype to production, investigate failure mechanisms, and advance testing techniques and jig development in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in materials science or engineering is required.
• 10+ years of experience characterizing, testing, and evaluating thermoplastics, elastomers, and/or adhesives.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and evaluate polymeric materials used across Starlink products.
• Support material selection and implementation with design engineers for cost-effective, reliable parts.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to solve material and processing challenges on current and next generation products.
• Lead scale-up from prototype to production of injection molded parts.
• Engage in root cause failure investigations for polymer materials.
