Job description

Every minute matters in stroke treatment. Magnendo is developing robotic technology to make life-saving endovascular procedures faster, safer, and more accessible. By combining advanced robotics, magnetic navigation, and intelligent software, we are tackling one of the most technically demanding challenges in healthcare while aiming to expand access to advanced stroke care for patients around the world. Join us in shaping the future of endovascular intervention.

We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and development of our perception software spanning a wide variety of algorithmic techniques as well as sensing modalities. These include both real-time and non-real time systems, 3D sensing and medical imaging, planning and real-time perception algorithms that drive robotic navigation and control. As an early hire, you will be a critical part of the small, dedicated team we are building to bring our breakthrough technology from prototype to FDA-approved product.

You Will:
  • Be our technical expert for all things relating to our production software development for our perception systems
  • Own the architecture, implementation, and system documentation of our perception software, including both medical image processing and depth-camera-based 3D reconstruction, using deep-learning and classical computer vision techniques
  • Work with our algorithms engineers and third-party contractors to take these perception systems from proof-of-concept through validation and production deployment
  • Develop flexible and modular architecture and interfaces that will allow subsystem-by-subsystem migration from prototype to medical grade production software including comprehensive unit and integration tests
  • Collaborate closely with motion planning, systems, and hardware engineers to integrate perception into the broader system
  • Develop secure and scalable infrastructure for data storage and model training
  • Help define and document a software development process that combines best practices of modern high reliability software development with a regulatory v-model framework
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to define and review requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria; support risk analysis, design reviews, and root-cause investigations
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to other engineers in your domain
You Are:
  • 9+ years of experience in systems and infrastructure software engineering with strong fundamentals and demonstrated ability to deliver the types of software described above for deployed edge compute platforms
  • Experienced with production software development in an environment with high reliability requirements, preferably under a regulatory regime
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python, with a firm grasp of real-time performance considerations, memory management, and software design patterns
  • A good collaborator who understands the importance of clear communication and humility, able to clearly convey complex tradeoffs to cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Proficient with Python, C++, Linux, GIT
Bonus Points:
  • Experience with medical or surgical imaging (e.g., fluoroscopy, ultrasound, endoscopy, CT/MRI)
  • Experience in the medical device industry, ideally with interventional or robotic systems, working knowledge of medical device software requirements
  • Experience developing software under a regulatory framework such as medical device (e.g., IEC 62304, IEC 60601), functional safety (IEC 61508, ISO 13849), or automotive (ISO 26262)
  • Experience with 3D sensing hardware (e.g., stereo cameras, structured light, depth sensors) and sensor fusion
  • Experience deploying ML models on embedded or real-time systems
