Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer for a position in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

You will develop, integrate, and test embedded software for flight and mission‑critical systems, emphasizing real‑time operating systems, hardware/software integration, and simulation tools. The role involves designing and executing automated tests, collaborating with systems engineers and program leadership, and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in a STEM field with related engineering experience.
• Experience in embedded software for flight and mission systems is required.
• Experience with real-time OS, CSPI, and lab environments preferred.

Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees innovate in cutting‑edge systems. This role is a Principal or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

You will develop, integrate, and test embedded software for flight and mission‑critical systems, focusing on real‑time operating systems, hardware/software integration, and simulation software.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated software tests for qualification of embedded software products.
• Participate in a lab environment on Agile projects.
• Apply knowledge across all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Analyze requirements for computer software configuration items (CSCI).
• Develop detailed, clear, and concise technical documentation.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose software installation, integration, acceptance, and operational issues.
• Submit detailed problem reports for errors found.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, integration/test engineers, and program leadership.
• Obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret clearance and any required Special Program Access within a reasonable time, and maintain/upgraded SAP/PAR.

Basic Qualifications

Principal Level

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline + 5 years related engineering experience.
• Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline + 3 years related engineering experience.
• PhD in a STEM discipline + 1 year related engineering experience.

Sr. Principal Level

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline + 8 years related engineering experience.
• Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline + 6 years related engineering experience.
• PhD in a STEM discipline + 4 years related engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with UAV route planning, routing algorithms, or other geometrically based algorithms.
• Familiarity with static code analysis tools: Coverity, SonarQube, Fortify.
• Familiarity with MATLAB.
• Experience with existing avionic systems.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, JavaScript, Bash).
• Experience with multi‑threaded programming in C/C++ for real‑time systems.
• Experience with SOAP and Java services.

Salary Range

• Primary Level: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
• Secondary Level: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00
