Job summary

H&R Block, Inc. seeks a Principal Software Engineer to provide enterprise-wide technical leadership across the Financial Services apps, with deep Spruce native mobile expertise for iOS and Android.

The role guides design, development practices, and engineering quality across mobile, backend, cloud, and data flows while mentoring engineers and driving modernization and AI-enabled delivery across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent.
• Ten to twelve years of progressive software engineering experience with technical leadership.
• Deep expertise in native mobile development with Swift and Kotlin for enterprise-scale apps.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and production operations.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted engineering practices and vendor/tech review processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical vision across Financial Services apps and Spruce mobile ecosystem.
• Architect and guide robust native apps using Swift and Kotlin.
• Define and enforce engineering standards, including secure coding and observability.
• Ensure enterprise standards for security, privacy, and compliance are met.
• Lead AI-enabled delivery practices and guardrails for usable AI patterns.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, coaching, and communities of practice.
