Job summary

Sora Fuel in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design, engineering, and fabrication of our first-of-a-kind SAF pilot plant. You will own the electrolyzer mechanical architecture and drive from concept through fabrication and commissioning.

This role demands deep expertise in electrochemical systems, robust leadership of internal and external teams, and a relentless focus on safety and reliability in a fast-moving, venture-backed environment.

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 15+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience with complex systems.
• Direct experience designing electrochemical or multi-phase processes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical architecture of carbonate electrolysis system.
• Scale from prototype to pilot plant, containerized or skid-mounted.
• Design thermal and fluid systems including piping and manifolds.
• Manage external EPCs, machine shops, and suppliers for fast fabrication.
• Collaborate with chemical engineers and EEs for system integration.
• Develop and execute safety-focused commissioning and test plans.
