We are the Service Provider (SP) Mechanical and Thermal team responsible for designing Cisco's high-performance, provider-class routers, the Cisco 8000 series. These devices utilize Cisco's Silicon One ASIC, delivering unmatched performance, density, and feature-rich functionality. Our mission is to transform the industry by building a new internet for AI networks and the 5G era, providing a unified, programmable silicon architecture that underpins all Cisco's future routing products. Our devices are designed for adaptability across service providers and web-scale markets, balancing high speed with programmability, buffering, power efficiency, scale, and feature flexibility. Your Impact

In this role, you will work on the platform engineering mechanical team in San Jose, CA, focusing on current and next-generation mechanical designs of telecom systems. You'll be part of a dynamic, collaborative environment that values open communication, innovation, teamwork, and customer success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead architectural definition and drive new technology implementation in next-generation platforms.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Lead failure analysis efforts and develop mitigation plans for field and manufacturing issues.
  • Engage with the external technical community and demonstrate leadership through presentations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 15+ years of related industry experience, or Master's degree with 12+ years of experience.
  • Expertise in mechanical design, manufacturing, and structural analysis.
  • Proven track record of innovation, such as patents or similar achievements.
  • Experience advising senior executives on technical matters.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in mechanical design of data center computer/network equipment.
  • Knowledge of cross-functional design areas like Interconnects, SI, PCB, EMI, safety, and thermal management.
  • Participation in industry standard organizations.
  • Leadership experience managing engineering teams and projects from conception to completion.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and creative thinking skills.
