Job description

Position: Parks Maintenance Worker

Bring your appreciation for working outdoors to Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation! We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team. Our parks maintenance staff work year-round, enjoy early hours, and benefit from a strong benefits package.

  1. Performs a variety of maintenance and operational tasks to support facilities, special events, athletic fields, and surrounding grounds.
  2. Assists with HVAC, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, locksmithing, and other trade-related work.
  3. Operates and maintains tools and equipment.
  4. Supports department-related special events, including set-up and breakdown.
  5. Communicates effectively.
  6. Works in various outdoor conditions performing physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting, prolonged standing, squatting, twisting, stretching, and crawling.
  7. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers, contractors, and team members.
  8. Performs other work as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, groundskeeping, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be highly motivated, goal-driven, and a self-starter.
  • Experience adhering to safety and environmental standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess or obtain within nine months of employment, a Registered Technician Pesticide License.

Additional Requirements:

  • Current valid driver's license and a good driving record. Record must not reflect six or more demerit points within the past 24 months or one major violation within the past 36 months, based on the Virginia DMV point system. Out-of-state records must be obtained and presented at the interview, reflecting at least three years of history, dated within 30 days of the interview.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification are required.
  • This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
