Safran DSI in Camarillo, CA is seeking a Laser Sensing Systems Principal Engineer to drive technical leadership across Attollo's laser sensing products and adjacent EO/IR technology. The role blends hands‑on design, integration, and mentoring with substantial customer engagement.

This senior individual contributor role emphasizes system-level thinking, rigorous engineering practice, and collaboration with defense partners to advance mission‑critical sensing capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Physics, Optical, or related field.
• 10–15+ years in defense or industrial electro‑optical systems development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of customer reviews and technical proposals.
• Full lifecycle ownership: concept through field issues.
• Direct experience as technical lead with defense primes or government labs.
• Experience developing and integrating laser sensing systems (rangefinders, LIDAR, etc.).
• Knowledge of laser sources, optical receivers, detectors, and signal processing.
• Familiarity with EO/IR engineering tools and system integration.
• Experience with analog electronics, high-speed timing, and FPGA processing.
• DoD security clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority for laser sensing products and make risk decisions.
• Lead design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of electro‑optical systems.
• Provide hands‑on engineering support for hardware assembly and lab troubleshooting.
• Translate customer requirements into system‑level solutions across optical, electrical, mechanical domains.
• Lead design reviews and technical direction; drive issue resolution.
• Engage with customers for proposals and business development activities.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices.
• Identify new technologies and guide product development from concept to prototype.
• Align product strategy with program execution for customer success.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
