Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead Kubernetes infrastructure within our Compute organization. You will shape the platform that powers millions of requests across global scale, balancing innovation with stability.

You will guide architectural strategy, mentor senior engineers, and partner with leadership to deliver secure, high-performance compute services for internal and external customers at massive scale.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure.
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes internals, including controllers and API server architecture.
• Experience running mission-critical platforms serving thousands of nodes.
• Strong security practices and container networking understanding.
• Proven ability to lead initiatives across teams and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Architectural Leadership: technical lead for our Kubernetes ecosystem and long-term strategy for a scalable platform.
• Customer Focus: design interfaces and tooling for internal users to simplify consumption of infrastructure services.
• Deep-Dive Engineering: optimize control plane and scale bottlenecks using Kubernetes internals.
• Secure Multi-tenancy: implement robust security and isolation for diverse workloads at scale.
• Operational Excellence: build automation, observability, and self-healing capabilities to minimize MTTR and maximize uptime.
• Strategic Influence: collaborate with engineering leadership to define the roadmap and balance feature velocity with platform integrity.
• Mentorship: mentor senior and staff engineers through architectural reviews and code standards.
