Job summary

Alarm.com is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the emPower team to drive architecture and engineering across cloud services, IoT devices, and customer experiences. You will lead through technical depth, own major architecture decisions, and mentor engineers to build reliable, scalable systems.

You’ll collaborate with product, firmware, and platform teams to convert ambiguous needs into solid technical direction, shaping critical software across devices, data pipelines, and automation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in CS/CE or related field.
• 15+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proven experience designing, building, and delivering complex software systems.
• Strong object‑oriented programming skills; C#/.NET required; direct C#/.NET experience a major plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on technical leadership for IoT, cloud services, mobile and web applications, and data pipelines.
• Lead architecture and design for major software components, APIs, data flows, and integration patterns.
• Evolve monolithic systems into modular, scalable, reliable architectures.
• Mentor engineers across multiple teams and raise the technical bar via reviews and guidance.
• Drive cross‑team collaboration across product, firmware, platform, operations, and application teams.
• Evaluate new technologies and methodologies to improve product capabilities and engineering outcomes.
