Principal Infrastructure Engineer- Direct-Hire/FTE - Remote (Washington DC Metro)

Title: Principal Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Washington DC.
Compensation: $150,000-170,000 Annual Base Salary
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.

As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, this person is responsible for translating requirements into architecture designs that guide the development and implementation of business solutions, while adhering to established design patterns and guiding principles defined by the enterprise architects' body. The role also requires enterprise security expertise, configuration and build automation expertise, software architecture expertise, and leadership skills. The role is instrumental in bringing innovative ideas to fruition. The architect provides deep technical knowledge and architectural design mentorship at an infrastructure, network, cloud, platform, and program level.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• On-Prem Infrastructure Architecture & Support
• Management of OKTA Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Configure and manage SSO Single Sign-on, MFA Multifactor Authentication, and user provisioning
  • Troubleshoot and resolve IAM related issues
  • Ensure compliance with Security Policies and Best practices
  • Manage Active Directories based authentication
  • Manage LINUX local authentication
  • Manage Ansible deployments
• Linux Infrastructure Administration
  • Install, Configure and Maintain Linux Servers
  • Monitor System performance, ensure system security and perform regular backups
  • Implement logging and SIEM analysis (working with INFOSEC)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Linux related issues – Focus On-Prem (instead of all cloud)
  • Apply OS patches & upgrades – Previous experience on both Linux & Windows Servers
• Networking
  • Knowledge of Network Infrastructure. Review Network Status
  • Configure and install network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) – Required because this person will support our VA datacenter.
  • Strong understanding of DNS principles, record types, zone management and DNSSEC
  • Knowledge of DNS security practice – protection against spoofing and DDoS attacks
• Tech Support and Security
  • Provide Technical Support for Infrastructure, Software and Network issues
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect IT Infrastructures
  • Experience in Email Spam Protection
  • Scripting and Automation – must have either Python (preferred) or PowerShell

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems.
• 10+ years of systems infrastructure design experience.
• Linux/Unix systems administration expertise.
• Windows experience - Active Directory, IAM (Identity Access Management), Entra ID, OKTA
• Experience with creating architectural standards document and governance practices.
• Experience with Cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP) and knowledge of related services.
• Experience with Agile Methodologies and demonstrated ability to operate in this model.
• Strong scripting skills in Perl, Shell, Python, or PowerShell.
• Experience with software development best practices.
• Experience in virtualization and container management.
• Expert in Kubernetes, OpenShift, OKD, and VMWare.
• Proficiency in load balancing systems: F5 LTM, F5 DNS (GTM)
• Advanced troubleshooting for virtual environments and IP failures.
• A plus - Certifications in Kubernetes, VMWare, or OpenShift
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Ansible.
