Job summary

ISU Research Park in Ames, IA seeks a Principal Infrastructure Architect to translate business requirements into tailored infrastructure builds, leading enterprise-scale deliveries across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

You will mentor teammates, establish standards, review architectures for security and compliance, and engage customers to translate needs into value-driven solutions. The role emphasizes scalable, resilient designs and continuous improvement across the customer base.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale infrastructure across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP) and hybrid designs.
• Deep knowledge of performance, security, availability, and disaster recovery for enterprise infra.
• Experience with Windows and Linux servers and Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Proven customer-facing consulting skills and ability to communicate with technical and executive audiences.
• Ability to work independently and lead within project and program constraints.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States (no sponsor needed now or in the future).

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of enterprise-scale infrastructure architectures across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Translate requirements into end-to-end architectures following industry guidelines and customer IT strategies.
• Serve as the senior technical authority, mentoring on sizing, performance, security, networking, OS, and databases.
• Ensure solutions meet security, regulatory, and governance requirements while upholding standards.
• Partner with Sales, Pre-Sales, Delivery, and Product teams to guide customers through architectural options.
• Maintain customer relationships and ensure project documentation clarity across all phases.
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to other architects and contribute to community knowledge sharing.
