Job summary

Nike Beaverton, OR is seeking a Principal Engineer, Identity & Authorization to lead the enterprise authorization platform. This role focuses on moving from app-specific access controls to centralized policy-driven decisions across APIs, cloud platforms, and data systems.

You will write production code, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Security, EA, Platform, and Product teams to define standards and scalable identity controls across Nike's global technology ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS, software engineering, information security, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale software platforms and distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in authorization architectures, identity and access management, authentication, identity governance, and privileged access concepts.
• Experience designing centralized policy decision services, policy enforcement architectures, and policy-as-code solutions.
• Ability to influence technical strategy, mentor engineers, and drive architectural transformation across multiple organizations.
• Hands-on software engineer who writes production code and deploys distributed systems in multi-region, high-availability environments.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the enterprise authorization architecture with standards and patterns across applications, APIs, cloud platforms, and services.
• Lead the transition from application-specific roles and permissions to centralized policy decision services and reusable authorization capabilities.
• Design and implement policy-based authorization solutions expressed as code and deployed through modern workflows.
• Partner with Security, Enterprise Architecture, Platform Engineering, and Product Engineering teams to embed authorization controls into the software development lifecycle.
• Mentor engineers and guide architectural decisions to enable scalable identity platforms and reduce operational complexity.
