Job description

The Opportunity

RS&H is currently seeking a Principal Highway Engineer for our Transportation Practice in our Philadelphia or Pittsburgh office!

Job Summary:

The Principal Highway Engineer candidate will be responsible for managing the roadway/highway analysis and design, plans production, specifications, reports, and estimates efforts on large-scale conventional and design-build projects for PennDOT, PA Turnpike, County, and Local clients. Additional responsibilities include client communication; managing subconsultants; mentoring roadway/highway staff; monitoring labor budgets and schedules for assigned projects; coordinating with discipline key task leaders and staff to ensure ongoing communications; performing quality control on deliverables; meeting project deliverable schedules and budgets for assigned projects; and leading/supporting marketing and business development initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Have a degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program and 15 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Experience in managing a highway design team of direct reports.
  • Experience with business development including hiring management, client relationship management, proposal writing and oral presentations.
  • Development of highway design deliverables such as Design Criteria Reports, Alternative Analysis, Line/Grade/Typical Sections, Design Field View, Final Roadway Plans/Specifications, and Engineer’s Estimates.
  • Pennsylvania Professional Engineers License.
  • PennDOT and PA Turnpike highway design experience including major reconstruction, realignment, corridor, intersection improvements, and preventative maintenance type projects.
  • Strong knowledge of PennDOT Design Manuals, Publication 408 and AASHTO – A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets.
