Job summary

Atom Computing in Boulder, Colorado seeks a hands-on Principal Hardware Engineer with expertise in high speed mixed-signal design to lead the architecture, implementation, and deployment of custom electronic assemblies for the control system of our quantum computer.

You will drive hardware strategy across multiple projects while remaining deeply engaged in tactical engineering work, mentoring team members, and collaborating with quantum engineers, firmware, and software teams.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in board-level analog and digital design.
• Full design cycle experience from concept through bring-up.
• Strong communication in a diverse, fast-moving team.
• Willingness to learn physics concepts and context.

Responsibilities

• Design high-level architectures for control system hardware.
• Create PCBAs and select FPGA/ processor components.
• Schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer.
• Prepare specs and review schematics/layouts.
• Bring-up, verify, and test hardware with FPGA/firmware teams.
• Mentor other hardware engineers.
