Job description

Join to apply for the Principal Hardware Engineer role at Oracle Database.

The successful candidate will work closely with selected suppliers from initial product review to product qualification, validation, and successful product release, along with supporting sustaining activities and implementing new technological features.

You will actively participate in development efforts, including product specifications, testing, verification, test automation, and ensuring a smooth transition to manufacturing for volume production. You will resolve issues related to integrating SSDs into data center servers and products, and provide technical support during qualification and post-release activities.

Detailed Responsibilities

• Collaborate with suppliers to develop and specify Oracle requirements.
• Conduct detailed reviews of SSD concepts and designs.
• Develop and implement quality and validation criteria for system configurations and workloads.
• Ensure compliance with Environmental and EMC requirements, supporting tests at system and rack levels.
• Work with suppliers to analyze and resolve technical issues using root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Support Operations Engineering with quality criteria and issue resolution.
• Communicate effectively in program management meetings and ensure timely closure of action items.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Test Engineering, Value Engineering, and Industrial Design to incorporate feedback into the storage system’s design. Work with manufacturing and external partners to resolve manufacturability issues and support transfer to production. Prior experience in storage systems or SSD design/support is a plus.

Engineering Requirements

The candidate must have a BS Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field, with at least 5 years of relevant high-tech industry experience, including:

• Experience with SSD design, testing, and qualification, including Host Bus Adaptors, PCIe bus, and subsystems.

Knowledge of NVMe, SAS, SATA, SES, PCIe protocols, and OCP specifications is desirable. Familiarity with signal integrity testing and SCSI is a plus. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and experience with Linux are required. Knowledge of diagnostic tools, parsing software outputs, and automation is also important.

Understanding of SSD validation, environmental testing, and EMI/EMC compliance is beneficial. Strong scripting skills and experience in test automation are preferred.
