Job summary

Fundamental is seeking a Principal Forward Deployed Data Scientist for Oil & Gas based in Houston to drive adoption of NEXUS and address complex technical challenges for Houston-based clients. You will manage multi-stakeholder relationships across IT, C‑suite, and data science teams, and translate field insights into the product roadmap.

You will lead end-to-end ML deployments, optimize models for business impact, and work with the Sales and Solution Architect teams to align stakeholders on

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in CS, Math, or Statistics or equivalent deep statistical literacy.
• 7+ years as a technical individual contributor in Data Science or ML engineering.
• Experience with customers or stakeholders in enterprise environments.
• Experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and building performant APIs (FastAPI/Flask).
• End-to-end ML pipeline expertise from framing to validation.
• Strong data handling with PySpark and Pandas; memory optimization.
• Proven ability to translate architectural nuances into business value.

Responsibilities

• Deploy production use cases with measurable business ROI.
• Benchmark against client baselines and perform data engineering tasks.
• Collaborate with research and product teams to feed insights into the roadmap.
• Contribute to technical strategy, data leakage prevention, and integration (VPC, on-prem, air-gapped).
• Bridge technical details to business stakeholders including Sales and Solutions Architect teams.
