Job description

Frostburg State University seeks a Principal Faculty member for the fully accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program in Hagerstown, Maryland. The position is a 12‑month contract (with annual renewal) for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a faculty role model, providing graduate‑level education in the PA program through teaching and related activities.
• Participate in service activities that support the mission of the program, department, and institution, including committee work, professional organization involvement, or leadership.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and scholarly work to maintain and advance personal and career growth, the profession, the program, and the institution.
• Maintain all faculty member requirements as described in the FSU Faculty Handbook.
• Maintain responsibility for the following ARC‑PA Standards (A2.05):
  • Developing, reviewing, and revising the program’s mission statement, goals, and competencies.
  • Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program.
  • Providing student instruction and evaluating student performance.
  • Academic counseling of students and ensuring availability of remedial instruction.
  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum.
  • Evaluating the program.

Minimum Qualifications

• Physician Assistant/Associate Master’s degree from an accredited PA program or its equivalence.
• Current, unencumbered PA license and board certification (NCCPA, osteopathic, or allopathic).
• Terminal degree at the time of completion (Master’s or Doctoral level in a related program). For non‑clinical professionals: terminal degree in health‑profession education, graduate medical education, or a related field (e.g., PhD, EdD).
• Prior teaching experience in higher education or other relevant experience demonstrating the ability to deliver complex instruction with appropriate assessment measures.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, oral and written.
• Demonstrated history of leadership, advocacy, and administrative effectiveness.
• General knowledge and understanding of the PA profession and its associated practice.
• Collaboration and appreciation for team‑based approaches evident in prior practice, work, or research activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of relevant experience (clinical or non‑clinical) working in or with underserved or rural populations.
• Teaching experience in higher education and/or administrative experience in academia, PA education, or a related field.
• Knowledge of PA program administration, organization, operations, curriculum, evaluation, and accreditation.
• Professional interest and consistent work related to research or scholarly activities that relate to the faculty role, the program’s mission, or the betterment of population health.
• Participation or leadership in local, state, regional, or professional national organizations.

Benefits

Salary: $108,000 – $112,000 per year (commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications). Benefits include University System of Maryland health care benefits, professional development funds, and tuition remission.
