At Atlassian, the Principal Enterprise Security Engineer leads the enterprise security architecture across corporate systems and SaaS platforms, shaping long-term vision and controls. Qualifications

• 10+ years in cybersecurity, with 5+ years in principal or lead architecture.
• Cloud security architecture knowledge (AWS, GCP).
• IAM, endpoint security, data protection, zero trust, network segmentation.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the end to end enterprise security architecture blueprint across endpoints, identity, network, and data.
• Lead architectural reviews of major enterprise technology initiatives (e.g., AI adoption, zero trust modernization, vendor onboarding).
• Establish architectural controls, paved paths and perform periodic maturity assessments.
• Provide expert guidance on security practices to engineering teams and review platform/service designs for security from the outset.
• Provide risk-based architectural recommendations to influence executives and investments.
• Enable safe, rapid changes with CI/CD for policy/config and large rollout planning.
• Collaborate with security teams, engineering partners, product leaders and other principal architects on large-scale security initiatives.
• Serve as liaison between Corporate Security and Product Security to unify security strategy.

The Principal Enterprise Security Engineer serves as the senior technical authority and strategic thought leader across corporate architecture, SaaS platforms, and workforce technologies. This individual will drive the long-term vision, design controls and paved paths that safeguard corporate assets while enabling business agility and innovation at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

Define and maintain the end to end enterprise security architecture blueprint, covering endpoint, identity, network, and data.

Lead the architectural reviews of major enterprise technology initiatives ( e.g., AI adoption, zero trust modernization, vendor onboarding).

Establish architectural controls, paved paths and perform periodic maturity assessments.

Technical Subject Matter Expertise (SME):

Provide expert guidance on security best practices, technologies, and methodologies to engineering teams.

Review and influence the design of platform and service architectures, ensuring security is integrated from the outset.

Provide risk-based architectural recommendations, influencing executive stakeholders and investment decisions.

Improve org-wide productivity and safety

Automate control deployment and drift detection (IaC/PaC), reduce exception volume, and shorten time-to-adoption via platformized solutions.

Enable safe, rapid change with CI/CD for policy/config and change planning for broad rollouts.

Work closely with security teams, engineering partners, product leaders, and other principal architects to drive large-scale security initiatives.

Serve as the architecture liaison between Coporate Security and Product Security, ensuring a unified security strategy across enterprise and customer-facing environment.

Serve as a role model for engineers and mentor security practitioners across multiple seniority levels.

Act as the technical mentor to security engineers across corporate domains.

In The United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $221,400 - $289,050

Zone B: $199,800 - $260,850

Zone C: $184,500 - $240,875

Key Skills & Experience

10+ years in cybersecurity, with 5+ years in principal or lead architecture.

Cloud Security Expertise: In-depth knowledge of cloud security architecture (AWS, GCP) and SaaS ecosystems ( Google workspace, Slack, Okta, etc).

Deep understanding of identity and access management, endpoint security, data protection, network segmentation and zero trust architecture.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex security concepts for executives and engineers.
