Job summary

T-Mobile is seeking a Principal Engineer, Software to lead and deliver mobile app solutions from our Bellevue, WA site. You will own architecture decisions, drive cross‑platform Android development with Kotlin, Jetpack, and Compose, and integrate IoT devices with mobile apps while mentoring the team.

This role supports a hybrid work model with telecommuting options and requires in‑person presence 3–4 days per week at the worksite.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Systems or equivalent and 5 years of relevant work experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Systems or equivalent and 7 years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop a full mobile app software stack with test automation.
• Research new technologies and software stacks independently.
• Drive engineering projects by developing software solutions, tests, and reports.
• Contribute to designs to implement new ideas improving systems, processes and services.
• Review existing designs to identify more efficient approaches.
• Write basic documentation of how technology works.
• Document system designs, presentations and business requirements for managers.
• Collaborate with technical teams to deliver technical solutions.
• Mentor and run in-house workshops to develop others.
• Contribute to new and existing technology options supporting business goals.
• Telecommuting is permitted with a requirement to work from the worksite location at least 3–4 days per week.
• No travel beyond domestic locations is anticipated.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop a full mobile app software stack with test automation.
• Conduct independent research into new technologies and software stacks.
• Drive engineering projects by developing software solutions, conducting tests and inspections, and preparing reports and calculations.
• Contribute to designs to implement new ideas that improve existing and new systems, processes, and services.
• Review existing designs and processes to identify more efficient approaches from an industry perspective.
• Write basic documentation on how technology works.
• Document systems designs, presentations, and business requirements for consumption at the manager level.
• Collaborate with technical teams and leverage system expertise to deliver technical solutions.
• Contribute to the development of others through mentoring or in-house workshops and learning sessions.
• Contribute to new and existing technology options that support business goals.
• Telecommuting is permitted, with a requirement to work from the worksite location at least 3–4 days per week.

Skill requirements

• Working in Android app development projects with a strong focus on architecture and design.
• Using Kotlin, Jetpack libraries, and Compose for building modern, efficient, and scalable Android applications.
• Working with IoT protocols, SignalR technologies, and integrating IoT devices with mobile applications.
• Leading a development team, providing technical guidance, and ensuring adherence to best practices in Android development and IoT integration.
• Leading Android development and overseeing iOS development efforts, ensuring seamless integration and consistent user experiences across platforms.
• Understanding mobile app security best practices, including data encryption, secure communication protocols, and threat mitigation strategies to protect user data and ensure app integrity.

Experience and education requirements

PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS: Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Systems or an equivalent foreign degree, and 5 years of relevant work experience.

ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Systems or an equivalent foreign degree, and 7 years of relevant work experience.

Candidate pay will be based on location, qualifications, and experience. Eligible employees may receive annual bonuses or periodic incentives.
