Job summary

Verizon is hiring a Principal Engineer of Software Development to provide technical leadership for complex, scalable software solutions using Java Spring Boot and React. You will mentor teams, build robust applications for our Customer Experience Platform and FiOS Order management, and participate in Agile development.

In this hybrid role, expect a mix of home and in-office work with a minimum of three days on-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Six+ years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work/military or training.
• Experience with Java and Spring Boot framework, deep knowledge of ecosystem.
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and React.

What You’ll Be Doing

In the role of Principal Engineer of Software Development, you will provide technical leadership for the design and implementation of complex, scalable software solutions primarily using Java Spring Boot and React. You will mentor technical teams and develop high-quality, robust applications that meet critical business needs within our evolving Customer Experience Platform (CXP) and FiOS Order management platform. You will leverage your full‑stack expertise to build robust and scalable solutions while actively participating in the Agile development process.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following

• Leading the design and development of large-scale, distributed systems.
• Implementing high-quality software solutions using Java and Spring Boot.
• Working with API management platforms, Apigee, to design, develop, and secure APIs.
• Utilizing Kibana for monitoring, analyzing, and visualizing application logs and performance metrics.
• Managing and collaborating on code using GIT version control.
• Providing technical guidance to the team, establishing best practices, coding standards, and development processes.
• Implementing robust build and deployment automation (CI/CD) practices.
• Partnering with enterprise architects, product managers, and business stakeholders and translate complex requirements into technical designs.
• Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks to optimize application speed and scalability.
• Demonstrating strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges.

What We’re Looking For…

You’ll need to have:

• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
• Experience with Java and the Spring Boot framework, including deep knowledge of its ecosystem.
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and the React framework and related tooling.
• Knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, microservices, and RESTful API design.

Even better if you have one or more of the following

• Experience with software development with a significant focus on backend and frontend technologies.
• Experience with designing, and implementing complex, scalable, and high-performance web applications and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of API Gateways, security gateways, and modern authentication/authorization patterns.
• Experience mentoring technical teams.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins).
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience with FiOS domain and order manager
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), including containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with messaging/streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, SQS, Kinesis, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with caching technologies (e.g., Redis).
• Knowledge of web security principles and best practices.

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.

The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $120,500.00 - $231,000.00.
