Job summary

Knightscope, Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer to own the end-to-end design and architecture of our Signals PSIM platform, integrating data from robot fleets, cameras, and AI detections into real-time dashboards and 3D digital twins.

You will lead multi-sensor ingestion, edge AI, and security posture, guiding architecture decisions for microservices, data pipelines, and external integrations with FedRAMP/IL5 compliance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with architecture responsibilities.
• Proven experience architecting large-scale real-time distributed platforms.
• Deep expertise in microservices, event-driven systems, and real-time data streaming.
• Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud and FedRAMP; Palantir Foundry/FedStart knowledge is a strong plus.
• Experience integrating VMS and camera APIs (Axis, Milestone).
• Strong understanding of AI/ML inference, edge computing, and sensor fusion architectures.
• Experience designing RBAC systems, secure API gateways, and zero-trust security patterns.
• Familiarity with 3D spatial data, digital twins, LiDAR, or geospatial systems.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the Signals platform end-to-end architecture including microservices, data pipelines, APIs, and front-end integration.
• Design scalable, secure patterns for multi-sensor data ingestion from robots and third-party devices.
• Architect real-time 3D Digital Twin layer with sensor fusion, AI-driven predictions, and event playback.
• Define integration architecture for internal tools and external systems (VMS, Axis, Palantir, Palantir FedStart).
• Lead data flow for AI/ML autonomy, including anomaly detection and threat prediction pipelines.
• Lead architecture reviews, design sessions, and technical decision-making across the team.
• Mentor engineers on distributed systems, streaming, edge AI, and GovCloud security.
• Evaluate build-vs-buy-vs-integrate options for components like video analytics and alerting infrastructure.
• Pursue emerging technologies in AI, robotics, edge computing to enhance platform and ecosystem.
