Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Engineer Mission Assurance to join our San Diego, CA team. The role focuses on ensuring quality products meet AS9100, government, and customer requirements through MRB processes, nonconformance investigations, and robust process controls.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and inspection to ensure high quality products and processes, eliminating non-value-added steps.
• Solve complex engineering problems in a fast-paced setting and coordinate with Development/Design teams, Operations, and Materials/Process groups.
• Lead non-conformance investigations to identify root cause and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Concur with MRB dispositions and communicate trends; support program and QA reviews.
• Track and report monthly quality performance metrics and participate in training of staff.

We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal Engineer Mission Assurance based out of San Diego, CA.

What You'll Get To Do

• Day-to-day activities will include side-by-side participation with operations, engineering, and inspection personnel to ensure high quality product and processes while removing non-value-added waste.
• Will work in a fast-paced environment and support solving complex engineering problems. Will effectively interact with Development/Design engineering teams, Operations, Materials and Process experts, Process engineering.
• Provide and support nonconformance analysis for product and processes.
• Concur with material review board dispositions for product non-conformances. Lead and participate in non-conformance investigations to analyze and determine root cause, define corrective actions, preventative actions, and ensure corrective/preventive action implementation and effectiveness coordinate, identify part non-conformance history, and communicate trends. Participate in program and quality assurance reviews.
• Track and report monthly quality performance metrics
• Train or assist with training of new hires, and refresher training of current technicians
• Review aerospace drawings and specifications and have sol id requirement interpretations
• Routinely coordinates technical issues with various programs and customers. Able to work independently, be a self-starter, and capable of multi-tasking
• Have strong problem-solving skills and be a critical thinker, - Have excellent computer, presentation, and communication skills.
• Focus on developing, establishing, and maintaining Mission Assurance policies and procedures, processes and controls thereby ensuring both performance and quality of manufactured products conform to established company, international (AS9100), and governmental requirements, as well as lasting customer satisfaction. Ensure customer requirements are our first priority
• Understand the design intent, failure modes, requirements, and specifications of the product as well as the manufacturing processes, process controls, statistics, SPC, as well as first article and quality inspections.
• Provide expertise and guidance in interpreting governmental regulations, agency guidelines, and internal policies/procedures to assure compliance and will serve as liaison between the MA team and various other organizations including some governmental agencies.
• Work directly with operating entities to ensure that inspections, statistical process control analyses, and audits are conducted on a continuing basis as specified to enforce requirements, meet specifications, and improve processing. Conduct internal audits of processes and procedures and act as an escort for internal and external auditors

The ideal candidate must be communicate written and verbally, proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel for data analysis, PowerPoint for reporting, Word for documentation), multitask, collaborate in a team environment, pay attention to detail in a fast pace manufacturing environment, think outside the box utilizing problem solving skills, and have good organizational skills.

Basic Qualifications For The Principal Engineer Mission Assurance

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering, Mission Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or other Engineering related fields; Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience.
• Experience with MRB (Material Review Board) standards.
• Experience interfacing with customers.
• Experience working independently, analyzing, evaluating, and multitasking in a fast pace working environment.
• RCCA experience.
• QMS (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.) experience.
• U.S Citizenship is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Lean Six Sigma certification.
• Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance.
• Leadership experience.

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
