Job summary

Google Cloud is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the Database Migration and Modernization portfolio. You will guide the technical direction, drive architecture for modernization components, and influence cross-organizational initiatives across multiple product lines.

You will partner with product management and engage external customers to deliver impactful modernization solutions in a fast-evolving cloud data ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of experience building database systems and delivering them in production.
• 10 years of experience with data platforms, systems engineering, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with open-source databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Expertise in database systems engineering, prioritizing systems over AI model development.
• Familiarity with database internals like Query Processing, Transaction Management, and Storage.
• Product sensibility and the ability to advocate for key product innovations.

About The Job

As a Principal Engineer, you will serve as the technical lead for the Database Migration and Modernization (M&M) portfolio. This is a senior systems-focused engineering role requiring deep expertise in database systems and cloud infrastructure. You will drive the technical direction across the M&M portfolio, ensuring Google remains at the forefront of database modernization. You will utilize cross-organizational influence and leadership capabilities to drive initiatives across multiple product lines. You will lead the technical direction for the global M&M product portfolio. You will drive cross-organizational and multi-product portfolio initiatives as a technical leader. You will inspire a highly technical team of subject matter experts and industry influencers.
