Target Corp. is seeking a Principal Engineer for Merchandising Capabilities in Brooklyn Park, MN. You will set the strategic direction for software and infrastructure across multiple portfolios, guiding architecture, APIs, and data contracts while driving enterprise-level scalability and reliability.

You will lead cross-team efforts with product, engineering, and EA to translate business goals into technical roadmaps, champion DevOps practices, and mentor engineers in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of technology development experience.
• 4+ years of technical strategy, architecture influence.
• Experience designing distributed systems and APIs.
• Experience with cloud, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability and production ops.
• Strong programming with Java, SQL/NoSQL, Python.
• Ability to connect tech choices to business outcomes and communicate trade-offs.
• Excellent communication and leadership across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical strategy and architecture for merchandising capabilities.
• Lead scalable, secure, highly available services and APIs.
• Define domain boundaries, data contracts, and reuse across enterprise scale.
• Establish engineering standards for API design, cloud-native development, observability, and security.
• Collaborate with product, EA, and engineering to translate business strategy into technical direction.
• Mentor engineers and drive DevOps practices and automated testing.
