Job summary

Ayesa is seeking a Principal to expand its regional presence in the UK and lead the planning and delivery of marine and coastal projects. You will manage client relations, provide technical oversight, and mentor teams across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities include strategy development with Directors, permits and regulatory submissions, financial control, and ensuring delivery on time and within budget. Travel may be required for international opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Marine/Coastal Engineering or related field. A Master's is a plus.
  • At least 8 years of experience in project management of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Chartered or near Chartered status with EI, ICE, CIWEM, or equivalent.
  • Professional certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) strongly preferred.
  • Experience as Employers Representative.
  • Permits/licenses for UK projects.
  • Experience winning work in UK/Ireland/Middle East.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and lead diverse teams.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant PM tools and software.
  • Broad experience in civil/structural design, modelling, and permitting.
  • Experience in marine/coastal environment a plus.
  • Willingness to travel.

  • Oversee a diverse portfolio of public and private clients, ensuring designs meet codes, timelines, and budgets.
  • Contribute to project planning, management, and delivery with a focus on innovation and improvement.
  • Coordinate permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals for large projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and ensure design fulfil project requirements.
  • Mentor project teams, including junior engineers.
  • Review and approve project deliverables, including inspections.
  • Monitor expenses and cost-to-complete projections; contribute to P&L reporting.
  • Ensure IMS compliance and uphold safety, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare tender documentation and exercise sound judgment.
  • Lead project resources outside the UK as required.
  • Maintain high-quality standards across all work.

Position

The Principal will be crucial in expanding the company's regional presence in the UK while contributing to the planning and delivery of local and international marine and coastal projects. This role will involve project management, client relations, technical oversight, financial control, mentoring and recruitment. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, experienced, and capable of managing various multidisciplinary projects.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Directors to develop and execute strategies for growing the business unit, focusing on expanding the team's regional reach and market penetration.
  • Oversee and manage a diverse portfolio of public and private clients, including contractors, developers and specialist third parties, ensuring that project designs adhere to relevant codes, standards, and guidelines and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Participate in and contribute to project planning, management, and delivery while identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement through research and analysis.
  • Plan and coordinate permits, licenses, and other regulatory approvals required for large multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, managing interfaces to ensure timely and compliant submissions.
  • Coordinate with internal resources, stakeholders, and external specialists or partners to meet project deadlines and budgets, providing technical guidance to ensure designs fulfil project requirements and specifications.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to oversee project delivery while managing and mentoring project teams, including junior Engineers.
  • Review, approve, and ensure proper implementation of project deliverables, including structural inspections and construction oversight.
  • Monitor and report on project expenses and cost-to-complete projections, contributing to department P&L reporting.
  • Provide oversight and assume responsibility for technical design solutions within the department, prioritising safety, legal, ethical, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare tender documentation, exercise sound judgment and decision-making, and demonstrate initiative as necessary.
  • Lead project-based resources in countries outside of the UK, subject to project requirements and opportunities.
  • Ensure all work complies with Ayesa’s Integrated Management System (IMS), maintaining the highest quality, safety, and environmental management standards.

  • Broad experience in civil and structural design, modelling studies, and environmental engineering and permitting requirements.
  • Experience in the marine and coastal environment is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
