Are you an experienced engineer ready to architect, design, maintain, and enhance datacenter hardware and software? Do you want to lead projects while working with technical operations teams on system design and configuration? As a Principal Engineer I at Spectrum, you can do that.

Our Network Operations groups engineer and manage an advanced infrastructure that offers a full range of state-of-the-art residential and business services including Spectrum Internet, TV, Mobile, and Voice. Through sophisticated innovations and service reliability, we ensure our customers never miss a second of what matters most.

BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

As a Principal Engineer in the Network Operations team, you lead, maintain, and enhance critical systems across the Spectrum Datacenter/Private Cloud environment. You possess an in-depth knowledge of technical and design skills that you use to improve Data Center teams and advise team leaders. You collaborate with multiple cross-functional technical teams in person and digitally in an office environment.

WHAT OUR PRINCIPAL ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST
  • Design, monitor, enhance, and troubleshoot systems in the Spectrum Data Center.
  • Mentor and guide technical teams to develop architecture and operational standards in the Spectrum Data Center environment.
  • Maintain system design standards through rigorous testing and review.
  • Set project and task priorities, create solutions to complex problems, assign work and deliverables to junior engineers, and provide mentoring and development opportunities to junior staff.
  • Build and deploy automated solutions and dashboards.
  • Influence infrastructure, deployment, and development environment decisions to best support the team.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: Eight (8) years of network or software engineering experience as a technical leader.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical skills: Advanced knowledge of networking protocols, concepts, and services (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, OSI network layers, DNS, DHCP). Expertise with tools like Jira, AWS, and Splunk.
  • Skills: Demonstrated complex problem-solving skills. Experience in designing solutions that improve operational and situational awareness (dashboards, websites, data processing, translations, user interfaces, big data).
  • Abilities: Ability to multitask and quickly adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. Ability to assess problems and determine effective, sustainable solutions. Capable of handling multiple assignments simultaneously and accountable for tasks. Proven ability to digest complex asks and provide technical and software solutions to measure and report on real-time issues and performance analysis.
  • Work Environment: This position is eligible for a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expert-level knowledge of Linux.
  • Experience architecting, designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining Kubernetes environments.
  • Experience with OpenShift.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Management Platforms.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining OpenStack environments.
  • Networking knowledge including routing, switching, BGP, data center fabrics, EVPN-VXLAN, spine-leaf.
  • Experience with load balancing, preferably with F5 Big IP.
  • Experience with software-defined storage.
  • Proficiency with shell scripting and familiarity with scripting languages such as Python and Ruby.
  • Experience with AWS.
