Job description

Define the scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges involving unique or controversial problems. Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Provide guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.

Apply technical experience in your field of specialization or broad-based experience across multiple technical fields to resolve complex problems.

Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex features, such as complicated technical requirements, new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements, into problem-solving and program planning.

Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as an expert in a functional area of technical expertise.

Provide direction and responsibility both within and outside department lines on programs, seeking new approaches and applications of existing engineering or scientific principles.

Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.

Identify and recommend improvements where existing technology components and methodologies are inadequate.

Stay informed of technological advancements in your area and prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for technical tasks.

Develop schedules, monitor progress, oversee expenditures, and review the quality of work performed.

Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written reports to customers, colleagues, and management. Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.

Enhance your expertise through leadership in local technical societies.

Demonstrate creativity through patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers, and articles.

Required Qualifications: Education & Experience

Education: Ph.D. in applicable science or engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience, OR a Master's with 8+ years, OR a Bachelor's with 10+ years or more.

Experience/Skills:

  • Process engineering management and/or operations management experience with nuclear materials involving glovebox operations, requiring thorough understanding of plutonium chemistry and safety issues.
  • Experience with development, approval, and implementation of Documented Safety Analysis (DSA), Technical Safety Requirements (TSR), and Nuclear Criticality Safety Evaluations (NCSE), including interfacing with customers and the Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board (DNFSB).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions for complex processing challenges.
  • Approximately 90% remote work, 10% onsite; local candidates or those willing to relocate at their own expense.
