Job summary

Elevance Health seeks a Principal Engineer - FDE to lead end-to-end application technology products across enterprise platforms, aligning with strategic objectives. This hybrid role requires in-office presence 3 days per week with flexibility for remote work and alternate locations within commuting distance.

Qualifications

• Requires a BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field, plus 11+ years of experience across multi-dimensional platforms and business/technical applications.
• Mentoring others and leading large, complex technical projects is preferred.
• Experience translating ambiguous business problems into production solutions from architecture through deployment.

Position Title:
Principal Engineer - FDE

Hybrid: This role requires associates to be in-office 3 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. Alternate locations may be considered if candidates reside within a commuting distance from an office.

The Principal Engineer - FDE works with the business and technology stakeholder's on the development and delivery of end to end application technology products and services for enterprise wide technology application platforms that are aligned to the organizations strategic objectives and initiatives.

How you will make an impact

• Works with stakeholders to establish the overall applications architecture vision and ensures specific components are appropriately designed and leveraged in a multi-product environment.
• Recommends new technology solutions and products are delivered to stakeholders and align with enterprise strategic objectives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and technology to define business requirements.
• Oversee the development and delivery of technical and/or functional specifications.
• Oversee the technical design reviews and testing to architectural technologies for application solutions and products meet business requirements.
• Leading and define the overall application system technology and architecture, development.
• Assesses the compatibility and integration of solutions and products.
• Works with IT to lead IT Business Transformation application architecture strategy and vision.
• Provides continuous consulting services and direction on projects.
• Champions and responsible for architectural standards, guidelines, principles, frameworks, and reference models.
• Collaborate with all stakeholders to define architectures for new strategic initiatives as well.

Minimum Requirements

• Requires a BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study, and a minimum of 11 years experience; experience with multi dimensional platforms, and business and technical applications required; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences

• Experience mentoring others, driving teams to achieve results, leading multiple and/or large complex technical projects, and providing troubleshooting support.
• Multi database and/or multi language.
• Experience owning the end-to-end technical mission-translating an ambiguous business problem into a working production solution, from architecture and rapid prototyping through integration, testing, deployment, and stabilization.
• Hands-on technical leader-designing and building across AI, applications, APIs, data, cloud, and legacy platforms while guiding other FDEs and federated engineering partners.
• Experience engineering trust and production readiness from day one-embedding security, privacy, compliance, evaluations, observability, human oversight, and reliability into the solution rather than treating them as late-stage approvals.
• Experience turning field delivery into reusable enterprise capability-converting mission learnings into reusable components, integration patterns, evaluation packs, development standards, and platform backlog enhancements that make subsequent missions faster and less expensive.
