Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Engineer – DMSMS Obsolescence to join the Aeronautics Systems team in Oklahoma City, on‑site only. The role focuses on reliability, maintainability, and availability studies across the program life cycle, with emphasis on obsolescence resolution and data‑driven decisions.

The ideal candidate has a STEM degree with significant experience and a Secret clearance. You’ll collaborate across departments, evaluate BOMs and parts lists, and communicate findings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5+ years’ experience; Master’s with 3 years; PhD with 1 year.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain on‑site work in Oklahoma City, OK.
  • Excellent communications skills – coordinate with multiple departments.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, BOMs and maintenance parts lists.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Logistics experience with DMSMS issues and resolutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reliability, maintainability and availability studies across the program life cycle.

  • Research BOMs and IPBs to build a comprehensive database.
  • Identify critical obsolescence data elements affecting LRUs, SRUs and parts.
  • Engage manufacturers for obsolescence information and proactive identification.
  • Assess system health and provide detailed impact analysis.
  • Perform trade‑off analyses for obsolescence resolutions including cost/benefit.
  • Define and compare resolution options for mission impact and lifecycle sustainability.
  • Present well‑researched, clear paths and comparisons to customers.

At Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Engineer – DMSMS‑Obsolescence to join the team of qualified individuals. Position is located onsite in Oklahoma City, OK. Remote/Hybrid is not available.


Responsibilities


  • Develop, coordinate and conduct reliability, maintainability and availability studies and evaluations of engineering design throughout the program life cycle (business capture, development, production, and sustainment)

  • Analyzes aircraft maintenance programs to determine effectiveness and creates written recommendations for increasing efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Completes understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standard airframes.

  • Research Bill Of Materials, engineering parts lists and IPBs to develop a comprehensive database.

  • Identify and document critical obsolescence data elements for items that impact longevity of LRUs, SRUs and piece‑parts.

  • Canvas manufacturers and vendors for obsolescence information related; maintain open, regular communication to ensure proactive obsolescence identification.

  • Assess and provide overall health assessment of systems within the overall scope of effort; provide detailed assessments of items impacting systems negatively.

  • Perform trade‑study analysis for obsolescence resolutions including cost‑benefits, lifetime buy benefits, technical data modification effort, system impact, non‑recurring engineering effort and complexity factor.

  • Identify and define resolution recommendations; grade resolutions based on cost‑benefit, mission impact and sustainability for life of system.

  • Provide preferred resolutions that are thoroughly researched and provide the customer a clear path and a direct comparison to less favorable resolutions.


Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in a Bachelor of Science discipline (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience; Master’s degree with 3 years experience; PhD with 1 year experience

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

  • Ability to obtain/maintain access to work on‑site in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

  • Excellent communications skills – work with multiple departments to solve problems.

  • Basic knowledge of JEDMICS, BLADE, AVCOM, LDMS, Silicon Expert, FLIS and FEDMALL.

  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, BOMs and maintenance parts lists.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Logistics experience with solving DMSMS issues and providing suitable resolutions.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance (or higher).

  • Knowledge of B‑2 maintenance/sustainment activity.

  • Knowledge of Military Specifications, Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) and other related technical and contractual documents.

  • Significant experience in military, government, commercial aerospace industry (e.g., aviation/equipment maintenance, aircraft operations, or commercial industrial technology companies).

  • Experience with reading and understanding technical data (e.g., Technical Orders, Engineering Drawings, Parts Lists, Bills of Material, Engineering Specifications, etc.).

  • A working understanding of government aircraft maintenance and supply processes/systems.

  • Extensive experience, thorough understanding, and ability to mine, analyze, sort, and filter, data, and information from Government Supply Chain Legacy Systems (e.g., D035, Stock Control System; D043, Air Force Interchangeability and Substitution System; D200, Requirements Management System; Purchase request processing System (PRPS), Contract Repair Management System (CRMS), and Logistics Installations and Mission Support – Enterprise View (LIMS‑EV suite)).

  • Extensive experience, thorough understanding, and working knowledge of Depot Supply Chain Management processes, management of end item buy and repair requirements, knowledge/experience with shop-process, workflow, and quality assurance requirements related to U.S. Air Force/military supply system processes and procedures.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and proficient with Microsoft products.


Salary & Benefits


  • Primary Level Salary Range: $84,700.00 - $127,100.00

  • The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

  • Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

  • Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.

  • Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
